In 2025, the Inflation Reduction Act is going to expand benefits, lower drug costs, and keep prescription drug premiums stable.
Drug plan Improvements:
• Insulin available at $35/month per covered prescription. This is a continuation
from 2023 that helps control expensive insulin prescription costs.
• Access to recommended adult vaccines without cost-sharing.
• A yearly cap ($2,000 in 2025) on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs in
Medicare. 2024 had a $8,000 out-of-pocket, this lower out-of-pocket will
dramatically effect those who had high prescription cost in 2024.
• Expansion of the low-income subsidy program (LIS or “Extra Help”) under
Medicare Part D to 150% of the federal poverty level starting in 2024. From 2023
to 2024, the low-income subsidy went from stages to 100% LIS, simplifying the
program.
• Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P) 2025 will be the first time a monthly
payment plan will be offered to pay for prescription drugs instead of a one-time
payment. The payment plan is set up with your insurance plan and is for those
who use higher cost medications.
-This program starts January 1st, 2025
